Bonzi pulls off first-round stunner
Benjamin Bonzi upset ninth-seeded Danill Medvedev 7-6, 3-6, 7-6, 6-2 in dominant fashion. Medvedev was coming off a semifinals appearance in last year's Wimbledon Championships and will see his world ranking plummet after a shocking defeat. In the fourth set, Bonzi was still serving at 136 miles per hour, overpowering Medvedev at times en route to victory.

Top-seed Sabalenka moves on
Aryna Sabalenka took out Carson Branstine 6-1, 7-5 to win her first-round match on the ladies side. Sabalenka is the Wimbledon favorite after coming up just short in the French Open final against Coco Gauff. Branstine, 24, a cousin of Los Angeles Dodgers star Freddie Freeman, was making her debut at Wimbledon. Branstine came into the match ranked No. 194 in the WTA.

Alcaraz's brilliance on grass tested
Two-time defending Wimbledon champion Carlos Alcaraz finds himself in an unexpected first-round battle with Fabio Fognini heading to the third set on Centre Court. After taking the first set 7-5, Alcaraz suffered a 7-6 loss in a second-set tiebreaker after missing several routine forehands along with an inconsistent serve.
Alcaraz — who has won 18 consecutive grass-court matches — has not shown his best against the 138th-best player in the world.
Commentator John McEnroe mentioned late in the second set prior to the tiebreaker that Alcaraz was showing "low energy" in the match and noted that the London heat — holding steady at 90 degrees — could be bothering the tournament favorite. Alcaraz's first-serve percentage thus far in the match is just over 50%.

American Francis Tiafoe coasted past Elmer Moller 6-3, 6-4, 6-2 to open Monday's first-round play at Wimbledon. Despite having the earliest match of the day, which is not his preference, Tiafoe had little issue disposing of Moller.
"I felt pretty good, one thing I probably wish is I served a lot better, but other than that, happy to get it done and through," Tiafoe said after the match. "I'm not a great morning person, but I'm happy with the match."
Tiafoe is ranked No. 12 in the world and is coming off a quarterfinals appearance in the French Open.
"Just getting my feet wet," Tiafoe said. "Now that I've had pretty much two weeks (here), I feel pretty good now. I went back to the states after the French. Grass is one of those (surfaces), you've just got to get on it. I'm happy to get through here."
